I think it would be very nice to see the member defined alt tag variable displayed in the statusbar when the mouse is rolled over a banner image instead of the looooooong ugly link generated by the scripts. I tried to implement this on my own with no luck, by editing common.php as follows...

Code removed by admin

Any ideas on how else to make this work ?? Any possibility to get this feature added in the next version ?? URL Cloaking is very needed these days Wink

Thanks
Tyler Mammone

I have deleted the code in your post, it's not very good to post so long parts of our code to a public forum.

The onmouseover function probably can't work in the banner code. It's a javasript function and there is used javascript to show banners, one javascript inside another will not work. We have already tested it by many possible ways but can't find a solution. If there is a javascript expert which know how to do that, please advice.

However you can use the onmouseover function easily if you don't use javascript but iframe to show the banner. Currently we use it as an alternative if someone doesn't have javascript enabled, so if you remove the javascript from templates html_below.txt and html_left.txt, you can use onmouseover in the banner code. Of course it will be a little less compatible with browsers than now.

I already use only the iframe and still can't seem to get it to work. Where is it an option? In the next release?

Sorry about showing code Wink

The following seems to be working:

function get_complete_html(...)
...
{ $html1 = "<a onmouseover=\"window.status=\\\'$data[alt]\\\'; return true\" onmouseout=\"window.status=\\\'\\\'; return true\" target=\"$s[target]\" href=\"$s[phpdirectory]/link.php?from=";
...

This function is in both common.php files - in main and admin directories.

I tested it and it worked. I'm not sure if you know that the complete HTML is saved to database so when you update both the common.php files, you must go to admin area or log in as the user and update the banner to save the changes (no need to change anything, just hit the submit button). You must do that in all existing accounts. This action saves all the new HTML's to database.
Also I presume you don't use javascript to display banners but the iframe only as you mentioned above.
If you do it but it still doesn't work, please email us, we can test it directly on your server.

I tried to add this to version 2.8 but I can't get it to work. I added the code to admin/common.php and /functions.php under the function get_complete_html part... And I also updated the banners as before. This is a clean install on a new database.

Any ideas ?

Did you remove the javascript from the banner code (html.txt template)?

Yes I did... The status bar text shows up but I get an error in the page. Take a look http://www.banneradcentral.com

I probably found it. The script now changes '' (two single quotes) to ' (one single quote), it's due some database issues. It means there should be onmouseout="window.status=''; return true" but it's changed to onmouseout="window.status='; return true". You can fix it by adding a space between the quotes:
onmouseout=\"window.status=\\\' \\\'; return true\"
(not sure if the number of backslashes if right, use the same number as before).

Thanks again! It works great now! You should definatly add this code to the next version. It looks much better than showing the script address and the click thru address in the status bar Wink

I agree that this would be a great enhancement for future releases.

Nothing like digging up a 5 year old thread, but seems enough time has passed where none of the tips here help to implement this into the current version as of this timestamp. Anyone know the quick fix to implement this while I keep nosing around the code?

This feature is enabled in the current version of Easy Banner Pro by default.
