PC World - Sony's PlayStation 3 has hit hard times. The company has slashed production costs by 35 percent, yet the console still sells at a loss--and those sales dropped 19 percent last month from a year earlier. But these are not the only problems Sony is facing: Now comes a free speech issue surrounding banned words from the PlayStation's "Home." Sony has run into trouble with its efforts to quell what some may consider offensive language.

PSP 4000 in Late 2009, PSP2 Arriving Later

PC World - With 2008 on its merry way out, "publishing sources" have leaked news of a PlayStation Portable update next year to Eurogamer. The PSP 4000, a final refresh model, will appear in late 2009, say these sources, followed by an official successor to the PSP at a later point. Make that 2011 or 2012, then, to speculate logically (and perhaps to coincide with the rumored release timeframe of Sony's PS4?).

Researchers Show 'Secure' Sites May Not Be Safe

NewsFactor - The small image of a padlock in the corner of your browser may not accurately indicate that a Web-site connection is secure, according to new research. A team of U.S. and European researchers used a computing grid of more than 200 Sony PlayStation 3 video-game machines to create fake certificates and fool a browser into thinking it had a secure connection with a trusted site.

AFP - Nintendo Co. said Thursday it will start offering videos through its blockbuster Wii game console, the latest new feature for the Japanese entertainment giant.
Reuters - Dentsu Inc, Japan's largest ad agency, said it would team up with game maker Nintendo Co Ltd to launch a video distribution service on Nintendo's wildly popular Wii console.
