Some of these scripts have WYSIWYG editors but not even going to that extreme or even say what you get with phpBB, I would like to see some more formatting tools for submitting articles. At the very least in my opinion line breaks should be recognized automatically or maybe a "recognize line breaks" on the article submission page.
I found myself going through articles and editing in admin and pasting
A lot of submitters don't know what:
"Allowed tags <a> <b> <br>" means and will assume that line breaks will be there. Some will copy and paste from say MS Word and assume that bold, italics etc formatting will be somehow magically included. I know that doesn't make sense but in my opinion anything that is an interface for the general public or a diverse audience with different levels of technical expertise, you play to the lower factors and assume ignorance.
In conjunction with that, The creator of Wordpress Matt Mullenweg has this on his site which might be useful for better html output:

| Thank you for the suggestion. It's likely that a WYSIWYG editor will be available in a next version. Note that there is the option to automatically replace end of lines by <br>. This is in configuration => submit forms. This option is valid for the public article submit form. |

Wa!
Good news!
Having an html editor for the next version, even a basic one, would be fantastic.
I just want to mention that in most of these HTML online editor, in the administration part of the editor, you have the choice as the owner, to decide what html features you will "give" to users.
In other words, you could allow them, for example, to give just the format text optins but not to upload pictures.
You can see a working " user-truncated" version of the FCKeditor at my cybercafe page at http://www.cybercafe-las-arcadas.com.
Look below the home page, in the comments form: there I choose to allow end users to have access to only 9 HTML features. From these 9, 2 are DO and UNDO , very very useful, and one spell check! That one is a jewel!
